Thing 15: Delicious!
Two “things” that I really wanted to do in this online course were get a Skype account and learn about Delicious–and I did both today! I’m still waiting to hear back from most of my Skype contacts, but my Delicious account is thriving.
Depending on the day, I go back and forth between Firefox and IE, so I set up the Delicious buttons for both. I then imported my Firefox favorites (a shorter and tidier list) and several of my IE favorites. I went hunting for a few sites and added them, but my favorite thing was adding Vicki Davis’ brightideasguru Delicious list. At first I felt that I was trespassing in someone’s office, going through their “stuff.” Then I remembered that part of the point of Delicious is sharing bright spots on the Internet with others–something that Ms. Davis definitely favors. Now, I feel very smart because I’ve got the same Internet list as the Cool Cat Teacher!
Will wonders never cease!
I have often been so frustrated at school or home to note that the URL I needed was saved on the other computer and not available till much later. I won’t be having that problem any more! I am going to have to work on the ideas of tagging and bundling. I have a feeling that those two organizers will become essential.
Our Sandbox Delicious page (devoted to the collection of our Delicious sites tagged with “K12learning20″) will be a great resource. Another application would be using it with my students. I haven’t worked the steps and logistics out in my mind yet, but I think I could use a wiki collection point for my history students to add helpful sites that they’ve found. I’m going to have to work on that idea. Wish me luck!
